Founder

Walid Ali is the founder and director of MED Center for a geopolitical risk advisory service. Walid’s career spans politics, public affairs and leadership training.

Given that the Libyan crisis reflects a network of overlapping geopolitical indicators for the dispute in the Mediterranean region, Walid has established MED center to create a platform for researchers working on the Libyan crisis to offer more intense analysis and a comprehensive look on the developments on the ground.

As a foreign policy analyst, Walid is writing customized Policy Advice Pieces and Political Risk Analysis Briefings on the developments in the Libyan crisis, both in its domestic and international levels.

For D+C, Development and Cooperation, he co-authored two articles on “Disappointment in EU leaders: European policymakers contributed to creating Libya’s security chaos”. And “Defining relationship: Why Libyans have mixed feelings about the EU”. https://www.dandc.eu/en/contributors/walid-ali.

As a member in ‘Libya Peace initiative’, headed by Prof. Awad Ibrahim, Former Libyan Deputy Prime Minister, Walid contributed to analyzing conflicts in Libya and their root causes. He was responsible for communicating with the rivals, participating in organizing hearing sessions with dignitaries from various regions of Libya, along with politicians, representatives of Libyan regions and its cultural components.

Purpose

The main purpose of the “Med Center for Political Analysis and Studies” is to contribute to raise the awareness about the dimensions of international and regional dispute in the Mediterranean region and its impact on local conflicts in the region.

As Libya has a symbolic geopolitical value, MED Center aims to highlight external influences in the Libyan crisis and to contribute to analyze rivalry between the regional and international players over Libya.

Methodology of work

Through publications and a set of political planning tools, MED Center seeks to provide a careful follow-up to the Libyan Dossier and an objective analysis of local and international political developments addressing the strategies of the actors and developing multiple scenarios for future.

As MED Center aims to inform policymakers and the public by subjective consultation, it is important to us to be neutral to the conflict reflecting different backgrounds and perspectives. Being inclusive, diverse and equitable is foundational to MED Center’s mission and is integral to how we, at MED Center, achieve excellence.

MED center's strategic plan:

During the first year, MED’s leadership aims to establish a rigorous identity for center and to establish an effective position between research centers specializing in Libyan affairs and the regional dispute over geopolitical influence in the Mediterranean region.

Strategic objectives

1. Follow-up on political and social developments in Libya by documenting and analyzing and providing objective conclusions, recommendations and perspectives that benefit the media space and decision makers.

2. To reach out to local and international institutions working in the Libyan field and networking and cooperation with them in research and training activities aimed to promote post-conflict play.

3. Attracting distinguished researchers at the Libyan and Arab levels to participate in the center’s publications and research projects.

4. Develop training programs for young political leaders (private and public) to enable them to master political planning skills and build a knowledge base and skill to play an active role in their communities in the next phase.
